Finding Your Dream In the Doing

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

IMG_1600This weekend was a special time for me. It was the moment that I reached a goal I have been working toward my entire professional life. This weekend, my husband and I hosted more than 100 people at my home for the VIP launch party of Star Lee Magazine.

I had one of those lightbulb moments as I prepared for the event that I’d like to share. I realized that even though I was celebrating the attainment of my dream at this party, having published a magazine that I am passionate about for a community that I viscerally understand, IMG_1744_Mag Covermy dream had already been realized some time ago.

I realized that achieving the dream is all about the doing. My dream was fulfilled when I first chose to act and take the leap of faith to do it!  That is the day that my dream came true. I see clearly that dreams are made of many decisions and an accumulation of all the choices I made to get here. The outcome is inevitable when you make choices that are about the little details that will get you to the result.

You, too, may make your dreams come true if you choose.

Finding your dream really is in the doing, in the small actions, in the everyday decisions. Every thought and  every little deed that I acted upon are what made this magazine and the celebration this weekend be realized.

Cheers to you and to your choosing your dreams and realizing your best you have to share with the world.

Establish a system for anything you do more than once

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Establishing a system for anything you do more than once is a sure way to make your company more valuable and efficient. Time is a limited resource in our lives. Creating systems and procedure for many things that are done in your company can help optimize your time management. A good example of this is when someone is sick or moves on from a position.

By keeping documentation of company standards up-to-date, a new person can be brought up to speed without you having to devote personal time for training them. Recoding the systems you use regularly and clearly documenting the process allows you to automate the way you do something to ensure consistency for both you and your customer.

A master at this is McDonalds. They have a system for every action in the business.  Standards and Procedures are what rule this business and Legacy to live on.

Power of the Third Party Endorsement

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

The power of a third-party endorsement is often overlooked. What I consider to be one of the most powerful tools in selling is not selling at all. It happens when clients share their positive experiences and appreciation of your business with others. This action attracts more clients of like-minded thinking and increases the success of your business.

Keeping this in mind, be sure to write down or record interviews with happy clients either using video or mp3s from a service such as freeconferencecall.com. Then use these reviews and testimonials on your website or your phone on-hold transcripts.  This is an easy way of sharing with potential new clients not only the services you offer, but also the past successes you – and your clients – have enjoyed.

Leading with Positivity

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Are you a glass-is-half-empty or a glass-is-half-full kind of person? Do you face challenges with a can-do attitude or do you think about how impossible it will be to solve? I think entrepreneurs are resourceful, clever and open to the idea that there are always other options and better ways of doing things.

A simple mind shift to this type of optimistic, open-to-possibilities attitude is where great journeys begin. If Christopher Columbus thought that the seas were an insurmountable challenge where would we be today? If Steve Jobs didn’t look for better ways to address computer systems then Apple would have never been born.

Or if Bert Jacobs gave up when he had only seven dollars in his bank account and rejected his challenges when started his own business with his brother, then the world would not have the Life is Good brand that epitomizes optimism.

We as entrepreneurs can lead with positivity. We just need to make sure to remain conscious that our point of view is a choice and the choice is up to each of us.

Nothing happens by chance

Friday, February 19th, 2010

People like to say things like “You are so lucky,” when really luck has nothing to do with it. I believe that nothing happens by chance, or luck, but rather that situations are presented to us as opportunities to learn, observe and grow.

As celebrity wellness expert J.J. Virgin said recently to her Facebook Fans: “Believe and receive or doubt and do without.” Our actions are a mirror of ourselves. This rings true for me.

Your Best Success Can Happen On The Heels Of Failure

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

I have found that success is inevitable and the only outcome that can happen when you make one simple mind shift. You must join the few and the elite who know that giving up is never an option.

I have studied entrepreneurs since the early 90’s and learned from the ones for whom stopping is not an option, even when “failure” has happened.  Did you know that Walt Disney had been forced to file for bankruptcy with his first animation company before forming the Walt Disney Company?

Failure is our most valuable teacher if we approach it with this mindset.

Our Business Reflects Our True Selves

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Being an entrepreneur is one of the best self-development tools I know. Our business is really an external reflection of our thinking and a manifestation of the decisions we make throughout our lives.

When you are at work, take a look at not only the product or service you are providing, but also the image you are presenting and the way you are interacting with your clients, customers, employees, peers and others around you.

If you are not happy with your business, taking this time to really look at yourself and your business will help you find a way to improve. Understanding that your business should be an authentic reflection of your values and your goals will help you make the changes needed for success and satisfaction. Remember that entrepreneurship is a journey of self discovery.

Teaching sells

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I have been a successful leader in sales for many years, and I believe that my success is attributed to fact that I do not sell. If you find yourself in the act of “selling,” you have already lost. Your value to the customer is gone. Your opportunity to share and teach has flown out the window.

People are smart and I find that when I give valued information they return to me. Not just because I sold to them, but because I gave them something of value. Now they value me and my message or product and are ready and willing to invest in what I’m offering.

What Does Passion Have To Do With Success? Everything!

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Tap into your passion and work will suddenly disappear. What happens to those of us that work and are passionless? We become disgruntled, angry, frustrated and sad. Our energy gets heavy and we become overwhelmed easily when we don’t tap into our passion.

I believe that passion is a gateway to our gifts. If you tap into what you are passionate about joy and light will spread from the source. Since we are all energy, by embracing what you are passionate about makes the world a better place.

The Four Bottom Lines of Business

Monday, February 8th, 2010

PASSION: Tap into your passion and you will find “work” disappearing as “life” takes over. If we do what we are passionate about and would do for free or in our off-time, it is usually a great way to identify your gift to the world based on your positive passion.

PLANET: We only get one planet and we are the custodians of it for future generations to come. This plant we share in common with all of humanity, so taking care of Mother Earth is an honor and a responsibility. Remembering that what we do in our business affects our planet, we should be conscious of our actions and the consequences of our decisions.

PEOPLE: People are our biggest assets in our business, we can’t forget that.

PROFITS: When profit comes from doing all of the above, passion, planet, people, they are profits worth repeating and growing.  Profits that make the world a better place.
